There is one search in your console, and it is in the bar across the top of every screen. Type what you are looking for and it lists what matches across the whole console, then opens the thing you choose. You do not need to remember which screen something lives on.
Where to Find This
On a laptop or tablet, the search field is in the middle of the bar across the top of every screen, between Bizzly at the left and your name at the right. It says Search customers, bookings, services, settings until you type, using your business's own words (a kids club sees Search parents, bookings, sessions, settings). On a phone it is a magnifying glass in the screen's own bar at the top. Press it and the field opens across the bar, saying Search.
On a laptop, press Ctrl K (Command K on a Mac) to jump into the field from anywhere on the screen. A small hint of the key shows inside the empty field.
What It Finds
As you type, and after a short pause, the results open in a panel that hangs from the field, over the screen, which dims behind it. You keep typing in the field. The results are grouped under the screen each one lives on, and each result shows the path to it, for example Website › Name and tagline. The words you typed are highlighted.
Customers and bookings are looked up once you have typed at least two letters. You see only what your role allows you to open.
Opening a Result
Press a result to go straight to it. Depending on what it is, it opens a screen or opens a sheet on the right screen, already at the part you were looking for. Twenty results are shown at a time. When there are more, Previous, a line such as 21 to 40 of 52 and Next stand under them.
If Nothing Matches
When nothing matches, the panel says Nothing called that. Try another word, or ask Bizzly. If you are an administrator, a row underneath, Ask or tell Bizzly, offers to start with your words. Press it and Ask or tell Bizzly opens with what you typed already in its box, ready for you to change and send. Nothing is sent for you. A question works too: type "how do I" and what you want to do, and when you send it Bizzly answers briefly, in a few plain sentences, and normally ends with a link to the help article that answers it. If it cannot find one, it says so. See Ask or Tell Bizzly.
If part of the search could not be done, the panel says so and shows what it did find. For example, Your people could not be searched just now. or Your payments could not be read just now. If both people and bookings fail, it shows the problem with a Try again button.
Narrowing a List on the Screen
On some screens that hold a long list, the same words also narrow that list. This is how it works on Bookings, on the lists on What you sell, on Team and on Sessions by day. Type a name in the search at the top of Bookings and the list below shrinks to the bookings that match. These screens have no search field of their own, because the one at the top is theirs.
Customers, and the Payments, Payment links and Orders tabs on Money, have a search field of their own above the list, which narrows that list in the same way. The search at the top does not narrow them.
To go back to the whole list, press Clear search (the cross in the field) or press Escape while you are in the field.
Your words are let go when you move to another screen, and when you switch to another website, so the next screen always starts with a full list.
Long Lists and Turning Pages
Every long list in the console works the same way. It shows twenty rows at a time. Under the rows are Previous, a line that says where you are, such as 21 to 40 of 45, and Next. Previous is greyed out on the first page and Next on the last. A list that fits on one page has no such line. While the next page is being read, the line says Reading page 2 (or the number it is reading).
- When you turn a page, the keyboard focus moves to the first row of the new page. Previous brings back a page you have already seen straight away.
- Changing what you are looking at, whether you type a search, choose another segment or change a filter, takes you back to the first page.
- A search looks through the whole list, not only the page you are on, and then shows the matches twenty at a time, so a match on a later page is found without pressing Next. The line then counts the matches, such as 1 to 20 of 31. On Customers, Bookings, Payment links and Orders it is Bizzly that does the looking, so it also finds matches on pages you have not turned to.
- If nothing matches, the list says so with your words quoted back, such as Nothing matches "sam", or in its own words on a screen that has them (No payment link matches "sam"., No order matches "sam"., No bookings match the search "sam".).
- Where a list can only narrow the page you are looking at, the line says how many match there, such as 2 matches on this page or No match on this page, and a page with no match says Nothing on this page matches your words and invites you to turn to the next page to look further.
- A short set of ways on, such as the tools on Customers, Every payment, in Stripe on Payments and an Add row, stands above its list rather than under it, so a long list never pushes it out of reach.
- Rows you tick to delete or cancel stay ticked when you turn the page. The bar at the foot counts every one you ticked, on every page, and Select all ticks the rows on the page you are looking at.
- A list inside a sheet, such as your websites in Settings, gets its own search box once it passes twenty rows.
- If a list was cut short, it says The list was cut short. Search to narrow it.
Search for it by what you want to do, not by where it is. Words like "mobile", "privacy", "bank", "closures" or "free trial" lead to the right place, and the path under each result shows you where it lives for next time.
