Pembee Alternatives: Pembee vs ClassForKids vs Bizzly (2026)

Pembee Alternatives: An Honest Starting Point

Pembee is a UK class and activity booking platform, launched in 2021 and grown out of a custom booking system originally built for a sports club. It is used by after-school clubs, forest schools, dance and gymnastics clubs, martial arts schools, holiday camps and freelance coaches, and its pitch is refreshingly plain: replace the spreadsheet, the Eventbrite tickets and the WhatsApp chasing with one tool that handles bookings, registers, payments and comms.

It is a good product. Pembee carries a 4.9 out of 5 rating from 23 reviews on Capterra, checked July 2026, and the praise is consistent in a way that is hard to fake - clear interface, fast human support, half the admin time. Its own published figures claim more than 900,000 bookings and over £40m collected for organisers. Plenty of clubs find nothing wrong with it at all, so be honest about why you are looking before you start comparing feature grids.

This guide compares Pembee against ClassForKids and Bizzly for children's activity providers - what Pembee genuinely does better than both, where its plan structure catches growing clubs out, and which suits which kind of operation. If ClassForKids is the one you are really weighing up, our ClassForKids alternatives guide covers it from the other direction, and our LoveAdmin alternatives guide covers the progression-tracking end of the market.

We make one of these products
Bizzly is ours. So the Pembee sections lead with the things it beats us at - Tax-Free Childcare, built-in family discounts, instalment plans - and our own gaps are named in the same detail. Searches like this one return a lot of vendor listicles, Pembee's own included. Read all of them, ours as well, knowing who wrote them.

Why Clubs Look for Pembee Alternatives

Waitlists are on the £70 plan

This is the one that surprises people. As of July 2026 waitlists sit on Pembee Premium, not Standard, so the club that is filling its classes - precisely the club that needs a waitlist - moves from £30 to £70 a month to get one. Custom domain, customer account credits, monthly reports, conversion tracking and unlimited admin users sit on the same side of the line, and Standard caps you at five admin users. If your comparison spreadsheet has Pembee at £30, check which of those you actually need before you trust the number.

Booking pages are not a website

Pembee produces branded booking pages, generates a theme from your brand assets and, on Premium, gives you a custom web address - all designed to be embedded into a website you run somewhere else. That is a reasonable architecture, and it means you keep paying for Wix, Squarespace, WordPress or a developer alongside: a second subscription, a second login, and the marketing content that actually gets you found living in a different product from the booking system.

Email only, and no staff app

Pembee's automated comms are email - confirmations, reminders, cart reminders, trial follow-ups, balance chasers. We could not find SMS listed anywhere on the product as of July 2026. Separately, the most consistent request in public reviews is a smartphone app staff can log into; registers work on a phone or tablet through the web, but there is no native app. Reviewers also mention registers sorting by surname with no option to sort by age group or class, and ask for a quicker way to move a customer onto a different booking.

Billing depth beyond terms and subscriptions

Pembee covers terms, blocks, session passes, drop-ins, memberships, instalments and deposits, which is more than most platforms at this price. Where clubs outgrow it is the layer above: seasons that roll into the next one automatically with a cancellation policy you set, booking access tied to what each family has actually paid for, and capacity held during checkout so a popular pack cannot oversell. If your August involves rebuilding the autumn programme by hand and emailing everyone to re-book, that is the gap talking.

What to Look for in a Pembee Alternative

Total cost including the percentage, at the volume you will hit

Model it as monthly plan fee + (expected monthly payment volume x platform fee percentage) + card processing. Pembee's 0.59% is one of the gentler fees in this market and stays reasonable a long way up, but it is still proportional to your income rather than your usage. Do the sum at the volume you expect in two years, on the tier that actually has the features you need, and remember VAT applies to the fee for UK clients.

Which billing models you need - and whether booking knows about them

Most clubs run more than one: a rolling membership for the regulars, a term pack for the school-year cohort, a block of ten for the family that wants flexibility, and a holiday camp that has to sell whole weeks and single days. Check how late joiners are handled mid-term, whether capacity is enforced per session, and who sets the cancellation policy. Then ask the question nobody asks and everybody regrets: does the booking calendar know what each family has paid for? Booking quotas tied to the active plan or pack mean a family can only book what they have bought, and a lapsed payment removes access automatically instead of becoming a spreadsheet job and an awkward conversation at the door.

How the money actually arrives

For UK after-school clubs and holiday camps this is often the deciding feature. If a meaningful share of your income comes through Tax-Free Childcare or childcare vouchers, a platform that reconciles those - ideally letting a parent pay from their HMRC account at checkout - removes a genuinely miserable admin job. If your income is card and Direct Debit, it matters much less. Be honest about which you are before you weight it.

Registers, safeguarding and being found

If you need to evidence who was in the room, check whether the platform records attendance at session level - present, late or absent, with room for a note - and whether a coach can mark a register without also seeing your billing. If your club runs on badges or grading, award scheme tracking is a specialist feature very few booking platforms have, and that one requirement shortens the shortlist dramatically. Finally, booking software only solves the second half of the problem: decide whether you want your website and booking system to be one product, or whether a marketplace listing that puts you in front of local parents is worth a higher fee.

Pricing Comparison

ItemEstimated CostNotes
Bizzly£19 to £49/monthBase £19 (50 bookings, 1 calendar), Standard £29 (200 bookings, 3 calendars, WhatsApp AI, SMS, waitlists, trials), Pro £49 (unlimited bookings and calendars, custom domain, branded email, merch store). Flat fee with no platform or transaction fee taken by Bizzly - Stripe processing applies at its own standard rates. 14-day free trial, no card. Multi-currency.
Pembee Standard£30/month + 0.59%As of July 2026: customisable registration forms, registers, monthly subscriptions, session passes, trial tickets, discount codes, booking reminders, tax collection, custom branding, up to 5 admin users, 90 days of email history. A 0.59% application fee (plus VAT for UK clients) applies to Stripe online payments, on top of Stripe processing. Annual billing is advertised as two months free.
Pembee Premium£70/month + 0.59%Everything in Standard plus waitlists, automated cart reminders, custom domain, brand theme generation, Google Ads / GA4 / Meta Pixel conversion tracking, monthly reports, customer account credits, a year of email history, unlimited admin users and Zapier. Waitlists being Premium-only is the detail most clubs miss when comparing headline prices.
ClassForKidsFrom £34.99/month + per-booking feeAs of July 2026: UK Standard listed from £34.99 (about £349.99 annually) with a Bespoke plan on application, free onboarding and a free trial. The per-booking platform fee is not published - ClassForKids says it depends on the size and structure of your business and is confirmed by your account manager. One UK club published 3.1% in its own parent FAQ, and Pembee's comparison page cites the same figure. Ask for yours in writing. GBP.
Do the sum at your real volume, on the real tier
A club taking £5,000 a month in parent payments pays roughly £30 in Pembee application fees on top of the plan - about £60 a month on Standard, or £100 on Premium if you need waitlists. If ClassForKids quotes you 3.1%, the same volume is around £155 in fees plus the £34.99 licence. Bizzly's Standard plan is £29 a month at any volume, with Stripe's processing charged separately by Stripe and nothing taken by the platform. Percentage pricing is cheap while you are small; the question is how steep the curve gets.
Currency
As of July 2026 Pembee lists support for a handful of currencies, GBP and EUR among them. ClassForKids is UK-focused and priced in GBP. Bizzly is a global, multi-currency product - the pounds shown here are the UK price points, and each business bills in its own currency wherever it operates.

Platform Reviews

Pembee

Best for: UK after-school clubs, holiday camps, forest schools and class providers that take Tax-Free Childcare, want term and instalment billing without a sales process, and already have a website they are happy with.

Pembee does the core job well and prices it honestly, which is more than can be said for much of this market. You can sell a whole term, a half-term, a six-week block, a session pass or a pay-as-you-go drop-in; split a term into monthly instalments or take a deposit and balance; run monthly memberships; and pro-rate a mid-term joiner automatically. Registers are markable from a phone or tablet mid-session, auto-flag no-shows, and run across twenty back-to-back sessions at multiple venues. Registration forms are customisable, ticket types are unlimited, place limits are per session, and family pricing and sibling discounts are built into the pricing rules rather than bolted on as codes.

The genuinely distinctive feature is payments. Alongside cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Klarna through Stripe, Pembee supports Tax-Free Childcare and childcare vouchers - including a connection that lets a parent pay directly from their HMRC Tax-Free Childcare account at checkout, without reference numbers or manual bank transfers - and it reconciles cash in the same dashboard. For an after-school club where half the income arrives as TFC, that is not a tick-box feature; it is the week's worst admin job removed. The 0.59% application fee, plus VAT for UK clients, is also among the lowest percentage fees in this market.

The limits are structural rather than sloppy. Waitlists, custom domain, account credits, reports, conversion tracking and unlimited admins are all Premium, which more than doubles the price for a club that fills its classes. There is no website builder, so you keep paying for a site elsewhere. Comms are email-only with no SMS listed. There is no native staff app - the most-requested addition in public reviews - and reviewers also flag surname-only register sorting, one bank account per system, and wanting a faster way to move a customer to a different booking. There is no award or grading tracking and no per-child progress journal.

  • Pricing: Standard £30/month, Premium £70/month, plus a 0.59% application fee (+VAT for UK clients) on Stripe online payments, on top of Stripe processing. Annual billing advertised as two months free. 30-day free trial, no card. Figures as of July 2026.
  • Strengths: Tax-Free Childcare and voucher support with direct HMRC-account payment, term and instalment billing, built-in family and sibling discounts, flexible ticket types, mobile-markable registers, low percentage fee, highly rated support, 30-day trial
  • Limitations: Waitlists and custom domain are Premium-only, five admin users on Standard, no website builder, no SMS listed, no native staff app, no grading or progress tracking, register sorting limited

ClassForKids

Best for: UK children's activity providers who want a specialist with a marketplace attached, and who would rather pay a percentage for demand than a flat fee for software.

ClassForKids is purpose-built for the kids activities market: class scheduling by age group, day and venue, parent payments, attendance registers, waitlist management, family accounts, and free or paid trial sessions with automated follow-up. Its real differentiator is the Discovery Site - a parent-facing listing included with the licence that puts your club in front of families searching for local activities. Neither Pembee nor Bizzly has an equivalent; if a marketplace listing brings you two extra families a term, it has paid for itself.

The cost model is the catch. UK Standard is listed from £34.99 a month, but the per-booking platform fee is not published - ClassForKids says it depends on the size and structure of your business and is confirmed by your account manager. The figure that circulates publicly is 3.1%, cited in one UK club's own parent FAQ and repeated on Pembee's comparison page, but treat that as indicative and get your own quote in writing. At any meaningful volume that percentage, not the licence, is the number that matters. Our ClassForKids pricing breakdown works through both halves of the bill.

  • Pricing: UK Standard from £34.99/month (about £349.99 annually) plus a per-booking platform fee quoted per club; Bespoke plan on application. Free onboarding and free trial listed.
  • Strengths: Purpose-built for kids activities, parent-facing discovery marketplace, registers and waitlists included, trial-to-paid conversion, free onboarding, established UK brand
  • Limitations: Per-booking fee not published, no website builder, no grading or award tracking, percentage cost scales with your success

Bizzly

Best for: Clubs that run more than one billing model, want their website and booking system to be the same product, and want a flat fee that does not move when they grow.

Bizzly starts from the other end of the problem. It includes a fully flexible drag-and-drop website editor on every plan - the whole public site, page by page, rather than booking pages embedded in someone else's template - and puts booking, billing and CRM inside the same product. The editor ships twenty-six components, among them the booking calendar, timetable, plans, store and cart, testimonials, forms and the entire customer portal as a drop-in block. You style per element down to a raw CSS inspector on top of a global theme in your own colours, build pages with per-page SEO, snapshot a version before you experiment, pull images from a media library with stock photography, and let AI draft or refine a page. The editor is a desktop tool and there is no custom-code injection, but short of writing your own HTML the site is yours.

Billing is the second differentiator, because subscription and term or season billing run side by side rather than one being an afterthought. Monthly plans carry booking quotas; session packs carry an expiry; one-off term and holiday-camp packs pro-rate automatically for mid-term joiners and sell whole or day by day; and season subscriptions bill natively through Stripe and auto-roll members into the next season with the cancellation policy you choose - billing-period end, a notice period, or the end of the season. Capacity is held while a family is in checkout, so a popular pack cannot oversell. An autumn netball season, a ten-session swim pack, a per-day summer camp and a rolling monthly membership all sell from one calendar.

Third, billing and booking are one system, which makes booking quotas payment-gated: a family can only book what their active plan, pack or credits cover, and lapsed payment automatically blocks new bookings rather than becoming somebody's Monday morning job. Booking rules are per plan - how far ahead families can book, the cutoff before a session, the notice required to cancel. Fourth is the WhatsApp AI assistant from Standard (500 messages a month, 2,000 on Pro), which books and cancels sessions, searches availability including recurring slots, suggests alternatives when a class is full, joins and checks waitlists, answers account, subscription and invoice questions, raises support tickets and answers business questions from a knowledge base you write - around the clock, with customers verified by one-time passcode. It earns its keep on Sunday-night traffic: is there space in the Tuesday four o'clock, when does my block expire.

The day-to-day admin is covered too: per-session day registers with Present, Late and Absent marking, a note against each mark, a printable register sheet and a filterable cross-session roster, with register access as its own staff permission; FIFO waitlists and free trial sessions from Standard; child profiles under one payer with custom fields driving per-slot eligibility by age band or level; registration forms for medical, consent and emergency details; staff bookings on behalf of a family, moving a child between sessions, and rescheduling a whole session by dragging the calendar; discount codes via Stripe promotion codes; automated email and SMS reminders, waitlist offers, failed-payment dunning and credit-expiry warnings; review requests by SMS magic link that you moderate and publish straight to your site; a parent portal handling pause and resume, plan changes, policy-driven cancellation with a live refund quote, credits, store orders and GDPR export; online lessons via native Google Meet with links sent in confirmations and reminders; calendars synced with Google Calendar; custom staff roles with a read/write permission matrix; and a merch store with stock control on Pro. Pricing is flat and published - Base £19, Standard £29, Pro £49 - with no platform or transaction fee taken by Bizzly, a 14-day free trial with no card, and billing in your own currency wherever you operate.

The gaps are real and worth stating plainly. There is no Tax-Free Childcare or childcare voucher handling - payments run through your own Stripe account, so a voucher-funded place is booked by staff on the family's behalf and reconciled outside the platform. Sibling discounts are codes rather than automatic detection at checkout. There is no award, badge or grading tracking and no per-child lesson-notes or progress journal; a coach can save a note with each attendance mark and that is as far as it goes. There are no native mobile apps - it is a responsive web app. Parents reschedule by cancelling and rebooking within the notice window, which returns the credit and lets them pick a new slot, rather than moving a booking in one action; staff can move them directly. There is no discovery marketplace, so unlike ClassForKids the platform will not bring you new families - you get a flat fee and your own website instead. And there is no managed implementation: you set it up yourself, with the trial to do it in.

  • Pricing: Base £19, Standard £29, Pro £49/month. No platform or transaction fees from Bizzly. 14-day free trial, no card required. Multi-currency.
  • Strengths: Fully flexible website editor on every plan, subscription plus term and season billing side by side with auto-rolling seasons, payment-gated booking quotas, WhatsApp AI assistant, registers with permission-scoped access, waitlists and trials from Standard, SMS reminders, reviews and merch store, flat pricing at any volume
  • Limitations: No Tax-Free Childcare or voucher handling, no automatic sibling detection, no grading or progress journal, no native mobile apps, customers reschedule by cancelling and rebooking rather than in one action, no discovery marketplace, no managed onboarding

How to Choose

Stay with Pembee (or choose it) if:

  • Tax-Free Childcare or childcare vouchers are a real share of your income
  • You want family and sibling discounts applied by pricing rules rather than codes
  • You sell terms in instalments or take a deposit and balance
  • You already have a website you are happy with and only need booking
  • Your volume is low enough that 0.59% is comfortably cheaper than a higher flat fee
  • Support quality matters more to you than feature breadth - it is what reviewers praise most

Choose ClassForKids if:

  • You want a marketplace listing putting your club in front of local parents
  • You are specifically a children's activity provider rather than a general club
  • The per-booking percentage you are quoted is worth what the discovery listing brings in

Choose Bizzly if:

  • You want your website and booking system to be one product, with a fully flexible editor rather than booking pages embedded elsewhere
  • You sell more than one way - monthly plans, term and season packs, camps and session packs together - and want seasons to roll into the next one on their own
  • You want booking access tied automatically to what each family has actually paid for
  • You want waitlists, trials and SMS without jumping to a premium tier
  • You want parent enquiries, availability checks and bookings handled over WhatsApp by an AI assistant
  • Your payment volume makes any percentage fee the line you notice most
  • You operate outside the UK or bill in more than one currency

Look wider if:

None of these three is universal. Progression-based clubs that need award and grading tracking should look at LoveAdmin, now trading as Thrive4 - our LoveAdmin alternatives guide covers that end of the market. Membership-first operations such as martial arts schools often land on TeamUp, and very simple one-off workshops may be fine on Bookwhen at a fraction of the price. Treat this as a starting shortlist, not a final answer - and whichever way you go, export your parent list, child records, subscription status and booking history before you cancel anything.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best alternatives to Pembee?
For children's activity providers the usual Pembee shortlist is ClassForKids, LoveAdmin (now Thrive4), Bookwhen and Bizzly. ClassForKids is the closest like-for-like UK specialist and adds a parent-facing discovery marketplace that Pembee does not have. LoveAdmin suits progression-based clubs that need award and grading tracking. Bookwhen is cheaper and simpler but does not model terms, families or registers the way an activity platform does. Bizzly is the broadest of the group: booking, registers, subscription billing, term and season billing, payment-gated booking quotas, a WhatsApp AI assistant and a fully flexible drag-and-drop website editor on one flat fee with no platform fee on payments. The honest starting question is what Pembee is actually failing to do for you, because for a straightforward class-and-term operation it is a good product at a fair price.
How much does Pembee cost in 2026?
As of July 2026 Pembee lists two plans: Standard at £30 a month and Premium at £70 a month, with annual billing advertised as two months free. On top of the plan, Pembee takes a 0.59% application fee on Stripe online payments, plus VAT for UK clients, and that sits on top of Stripe's own processing charges. There is a 30-day free trial with no card required. The fee is genuinely modest next to the percentage models used elsewhere in this market, but it is still a percentage: at £4,000 a month in parent payments it is around £24 a month, at £10,000 around £59. Check pembee.app for current figures before you budget.
Why do clubs look for Pembee alternatives?
Four reasons come up repeatedly. First, waitlists sit on the Premium plan, so the club that fills its classes - exactly the club that needs a waitlist - jumps from £30 to £70 a month to get one. Second, there is no website builder: Pembee gives you branded booking pages you embed into a site hosted elsewhere, so you keep paying for Wix, Squarespace or a developer alongside. Third, there is no staff mobile app, which reviewers name as the most requested addition. Fourth, comms are email-only - no SMS is listed anywhere on the product - which matters if your parents do not read email on a Saturday morning. None of those are dealbreakers alone; together they are why clubs start looking.
Is Pembee cheaper than ClassForKids?
On the figures we can verify, usually yes, and the gap widens with volume. Pembee lists £30 a month plus a 0.59% application fee. ClassForKids lists £34.99 a month plus a per-booking platform fee it does not publish, with 3.1% the figure cited by a UK club's own parent FAQ and by Pembee's comparison page. At £5,000 a month in bookings that is roughly £30 + £30 for Pembee against roughly £35 + £155 for ClassForKids, if 3.1% is your quoted rate. But compare like for like: if you need waitlists you are on Pembee Premium at £70, and ClassForKids includes a discovery marketplace listing that can genuinely bring you new families. Get both fee quotes in writing before deciding anything on price.
What does Pembee do that Bizzly does not?
Two things clearly, and one of them is significant for UK clubs. Pembee has direct Tax-Free Childcare and childcare voucher support, including a connection that lets parents pay from an HMRC Tax-Free Childcare account at checkout, and it reconciles cash payments in the same dashboard. Bizzly takes payments through your own Stripe account, so a voucher-funded place has to be booked by staff on the family's behalf and reconciled outside the platform. If a large share of your income arrives as Tax-Free Childcare - typical for after-school clubs and holiday camps - that alone may decide it. Second, Pembee builds family and sibling discounts into its pricing rules; Bizzly delivers sibling discounts through Stripe promotion codes, which works but is not automatic at checkout. Pembee also offers instalment plans and deposit-plus-balance structures on a term, where Bizzly's nearest equivalent is a season subscription that bills per period.
Does Bizzly have attendance registers and waitlists on every plan?
Registers yes, waitlists from Standard. Bizzly produces a per-session day register listing every attendee, marked Present, Late or Absent with a note against each mark, printable as a register sheet, plus a filterable cross-session roster - and register access is its own staff permission, so a coach can mark attendance without seeing billing. On Standard (£29) and above, a full session collects a FIFO waitlist and a freed place is auto-offered to the next family with a time-limited claim link, twelve hours by default and configurable up to seven days, with paid claims taken through Stripe; admins see the queue and can promote manually. Free trial sessions are a per-service toggle on Standard and above, one to ten sessions, tracked per child. What Bizzly does not do is award or grading progression, or a per-child progress journal - a note saved against each attendance mark is as far as it goes.
Can Bizzly handle term billing as well as monthly subscriptions?
Yes, side by side, which is the main reason clubs choose it. Bizzly runs monthly plans with booking quotas, session packs with an expiry date, one-off term and holiday-camp packs, and season subscriptions in the same system, so an autumn netball season, a ten-session swim pack, a per-day summer camp and a rolling monthly membership can all sell from one calendar. Mid-term joiners pay a pro-rated price automatically, camps sell whole or day by day, and capacity is held while a family is in checkout so a popular pack cannot oversell. Season subscriptions bill natively through Stripe and auto-roll members into the next season with the cancellation policy you choose - billing-period end, a notice period, or the end of the season - which is the part most term-based platforms leave you to do by hand every August.
Do I still need a separate website with Pembee?
Yes. Pembee gives you branded booking pages, a theme generated from your brand assets and, on Premium, a custom web address - designed to be embedded into a website you already run. That is a booking front end, not a marketing site with your own pages, copy and search-optimised content, so most Pembee customers pay separately for Wix, Squarespace, WordPress or a developer. Bizzly includes a fully flexible drag-and-drop website editor on every plan: twenty-six components including the booking calendar, timetable, plans, store and cart, testimonials, forms and the whole customer portal as a drop-in; per-element styling down to a raw CSS inspector; a global theme in your own colours; multiple pages with per-page SEO; version snapshots so you can roll a page back; a media library with stock photography; and AI page creation and refinement. The editor itself is a desktop tool and there is no custom-code injection, but the public site is genuinely yours rather than a widget in somebody else's template.

Summary

Pembee is a well-built, fairly priced platform with the lowest percentage fee of the three here and one feature that genuinely matters to UK clubs: Tax-Free Childcare and childcare voucher handling, including direct payment from a parent's HMRC account. If that describes where your money comes from, it is hard to argue with. The reasons clubs move on are structural rather than damning - waitlists and custom domain behind the £70 tier, five admin users on Standard, no website builder, no SMS listed and no staff app.

ClassForKids covers similar ground and adds a discovery marketplace that can genuinely bring you families, at the cost of a per-booking fee it does not publish. Bizzly is the one to look at if you want the website and the booking system to be the same thing, if you sell memberships and term or season packs alongside each other and want seasons to roll on their own, if you want booking access gated automatically by payment, and if you want waitlists, trials, SMS and a WhatsApp AI assistant without a premium tier - all on a flat fee with no cut taken on payments, though it does not handle childcare vouchers, grading or progress journals, and it will not bring you new families the way a marketplace does. Whichever way you lean, get both halves of the bill in writing - the monthly fee and the percentage - and compare twelve months of total cost rather than headline prices.
