Two pieces of writing are the first thing a customer reads: your business name and the one line under the headline on your home page. You can change both without opening the page editor.
Where to Find This
Open Website in your console and press Name and tagline, the first row under Content. The row shows your business name, or "No name yet". It opens a pane headed Name and tagline, with the line "The name and the line customers read first". On a phone the same pane fills the screen.
You can also reach the same pane from the page itself: press Change the name in the header. The headline, the line under it, the main button and the big picture at the top of the page have a pane of their own, Change the welcome. See Changing the Welcome at the Top of Your Page.
Changing the words is for people who are allowed to change the website. If the console cannot find your home page, or your role can only look, the Name and tagline row opens the full page editor instead.
How to Change Your Name and Tagline
- 1
Change your business name
Type it in the Business name box. If your website has a shared header and footer, the note under the box says "Your business name on every page, in the header and the footer, and in what you send." Otherwise it says "Customers see it across your website and in what you send them." The name cannot be empty: the box says Your business needs a name.
- 2
Change the line under your headline
Type it in the One line about it box. The note under it says "It sits under the headline on your home page." If your home page has no headline, there is no box. Instead the pane says "Your home page has no headline to put a line under, so its words are in the full page editor."
- 3
Read any notes
Short notes can appear under the boxes. They tell you what the change will do before you make it, and they are explained below. The pane holds only these two boxes, with a way on to the full page editor at its foot.
- 4
Press Save
As soon as you change something, a foot appears at the bottom of the pane with Cancel and Save. Press Save and the change is made at once, and a message says Name and tagline changed, with an Undo button. Until you change something the foot is not there, and the top of the pane says Saved.
What a New Business Name Changes
Your business name is used in several places, and the pane changes them together:
- The name of your website. This is what customers see across it and in what you send them.
- Your headline, if it says your business name. A headline that is just your old name becomes your new name. Any other headline is your own words and stays as it is.
- Your header and footer. The name in the header and footer that stand round every page is changed too.
Two notes can appear under the boxes when something is different about your site:
- Your website has no shared header and footer, so the name is not changed there. The name changes, but there is no header or footer to put it in.
- Your header and footer have no business name to change. The name changes, but they have no place for it.
If your header was edited to say something other than your business name, the pane tells you first: "Your header says “Hove Kickers Club”, not your business name. It will say “Hove Kickers”, and Undo puts “Hove Kickers Club” back." The header is changed all the same, because you have just told Bizzly your business name.
If the text you are replacing is styled in more than one way, for example one word in bold, the pane says "Parts of that text are styled differently. The new words will all be in one style. Undo puts the old ones back."
If part of the change cannot be saved, Bizzly puts back anything it had already changed, so nothing is left half done.
Taking It Back
Press Undo on the message, or use the Undo a change row under Tools on the Website screen, where it reads "Last: Your name and tagline". Undo puts back your old business name, the old line, and the old name in the header and footer, as they were. Anything else you have changed in the editor since is left alone. See How Changes Work.
What Customers Receive
The list of messages Bizzly sends your customers is not in this pane. It has its own row on the Website screen, What customers receive, under Content. See What Your Customers Receive.
Your pages have a row of their own on the Website screen. See Managing Your Pages.
At the foot of the pane, Everything else about your pages opens the full page editor, for the rest of the writing on your pages. On a phone it says "Everything else about your pages is best on a larger screen". See Website Editor Overview.
If your home page, header or footer could not be read, the pane says so with a Try again button, and changes nothing. If a change could not be made, it says "The words could not be changed. Please try again." under the boxes.
