The welcome is the block at the top of your home page: a headline, a line under it, a main button and usually a big picture. It is the first thing a customer sees. You can change all of it from the Website screen, without opening the page editor.
Where to Find This
Open Website in your console. Over the top of your home page there is a button, Change the welcome. Press it and the Welcome pane opens beside the page. You can also type Welcome into the search at the top of the screen. It finds the pane under Website › Welcome, and it finds the headline, the button words, where the button goes and the picture on their own.
The pane is headed Welcome, with the line "The headline, the line under it, the button and the picture at the top of your home page". Changing the welcome is for people who are allowed to change the website. See The Website Screen.
What You Can Change
- 1
The headline
Type it in the Headline box. A line under the box tells you which kind of headline you have. If it says your business name, it reads "It says your business name, so it changes when the name does. Write a headline of your own and it stops following the name." If you have written your own, it reads "This is your own headline, so a new business name will not change it."
- 2
The line under it
Type it in the One line about it box. It sits under the headline on your home page. This is the same line that Name and tagline holds, so changing it in either place changes it in both.
- 3
The button
Button words is what the button says. It cannot be left empty once the button has words: the box says "The button needs some words."
Where it goes is where customers land when they press the button. Choose one of your pages by name, or Another web address, and type the address in the Web address box. An address has to start with https://. If you have not chosen, the box says "It goes nowhere yet", or "It moves down the page" when the button scrolls to the next part.
- 4
The picture
Under Picture, the picture you have now is shown, or "No picture yet". Press Choose a picture to upload one from your device, From your pictures to use one your website already has, or Find a stock photo. With a picture in place the first button reads Change the picture, and Remove the picture takes it off. A line under it says whether the picture fills the back of the welcome, behind the words ("It fills the back of the Welcome part, behind the words."), or stands with the words ("It stands with the words in the Welcome part.").
- 5
Press Save
Until you change something, the top of the pane says Saved. As soon as you do, Cancel and Save appear at the foot. Press Save and the change is made at once. A message at the bottom of the screen says Welcome changed, with an Undo button. There is no step called Publish.
If a box has something wrong in it, pressing Save takes you to it and the box says what is wrong. While the change is being made you cannot close the pane.
When the Pane Cannot Change Everything
Some welcome blocks have less to change, and the pane says so:
- If your welcome shows no button, the pane says "The Welcome part shows no button. A button is added in the full page editor." and has no button boxes.
- If it shows a slideshow, the pane says "The Welcome part shows a slideshow. Its pictures are changed in the full page editor." and has no Picture box.
- If your home page has no welcome block at all, the pane says "Your home page has no Welcome part to change here. Its words are in the full page editor."
In each case, Open the full page editor stands under the note. On a phone it reads "The full page editor is best on a larger screen". See Website Editor Overview.
Taking It Back
Press Undo on the message, or use the Undo a change row under Tools on the Website screen, which names the change as "Last: The Welcome part of your website". Undo puts back the headline, the line, the button and the picture as they were. See How Changes Work.
Your business name is in Name and tagline, not here. A headline that says your business name follows it when you change the name there. See Changing Your Name and Tagline.
