Your website carries a short, hidden summary of your business that search engines read. It is how Google knows your name, where you work, how to ring you and what you charge. You do not write it. Bizzly builds it from the details you give. This part of the sheet shows you what it says, so you can check it.
Where to Find This
Open Website in your console, press Show on Google, press the Your details for Google row, and look under How does Google read your site? It sits between Where do you work? and More options.
What Google Is Told
The line starts with Google is told: and then says, in your own words, what Google is told about your business. For example:
Google is told: Saturday Kickers, listed as Education & Training, in Hove, phone +441273000000, open Saturday 9am to 12pm and prices £6-£12
Each fact appears only if you have given it, so a business that has said little is told as little. The line can include:
- your business name and the kind of business you chose
- your town, and the places you work
- your phone number and email address
- your opening hours and your price range, if you have set them
- your star rating and how many reviews it is from
- how many links to your social pages you have
- whether you have a picture for sharing
- how many questions and answers you have
If you want to change something, change it in Your details for Google. See Adding Your Business Information. Your opening hours, price range and questions and answers are in the same sheet, under More options. Your star rating comes from your reviews.
Press See more at the end of the line to open the part below it.
Show the Data
The row Show the data, with the line "What your website sends Google, as it sends it", opens the summary itself, as plain text. It has up to four parts:
- What your website tells Google now. What your pages carry today.
- What it will tell Google once you save. Shown only when the details in the sheet, as you have typed them, would change what Google is told.
- Your questions and answers. Shown only if you have some.
- Your questions and answers once you save. Shown only when the questions you have typed would change what Google is told.
You do not need to read it. It is there for anyone who wants to see exactly what is sent, or to show it to someone who builds websites.
Check What Google Reads
Two rows open free tools from outside Bizzly, each in a new tab, with your website's address already filled in:
When You Change Something
While you type in the sheet, a sentence appears under the section if what you have typed would tell Google something different from what it is told now. It names what changes, for example "When you save, Google will be told something different about your phone number." Nothing is saved until you press Save at the foot of the sheet. See Adding Your Business Information.
How does Google read your site? only shows you things. The one button that saves is Save at the foot of Your details for Google.
